In 1982 Michael Hollingsworth was known for hip black comedies (one of them closed by the Toronto police) and video-rock stagings of Orwell's 1984 and Huxley's Brave New World; he may have seemed the playwright least likely to spend the next thirty years writing about Canadian history.
