38th season: Director of Music Emeritus. Composer for The Beaux' StratagemStratford: During his time as Director of Music at the Stratford Festival (1975-2009), Mr. Carrière composed, arranged and conducted over 90 productions. He was musical director, arranger and conductor for Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado (U.S., Broadway and London’s Old Vic), HMS Pinafore (U.S. tour), The Gondoliers, The Pirates of Penzance, Iolanthe and Patience in Concert. Bert composed the music for Christopher Plummer’s King Lear and Brian Bedford’s The Importance of Being Earnest, both playing at New York City’s Lincoln Center. Elsewhere: Theatre Royal Haymarket, London, England: Dame Maggie Smith’s Virginia. Edmonton’s Citadel Theatre. Theatre London. Film, TV, Radio, Recordings: NBC’s Little Gloria… Happy at Last, TVO’s Canadian Literature Series (composer); composer, arranger, conductor for numerous CBC radio and television productions. CD of the Stratford Festival’s The Three Musketeers. Training: Université de Montréal, BMus; Western University, MMus. Awards: Dora Awards for The Boy Friend (Errant Productions, 1981), The Mikado (1987). Stratford Festival Special Tyrone Guthrie Award tribute for contribution to theatre at large, 1973. Western University Alumni Professional Achievement Award, 2000, and Faculty of Music Hall of Fame, 2001. In 2001 he was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada.
