About the Play
Returning from battle, Macbeth encounters three mysterious women who tell him he will become king. Urged on by his wife, he decides to take his destiny in hand by murdering King Duncan as he sleeps. But as one atrocity leads inexorably to another, Macbeth finds that the choices we make can have unexpected consequences.
Plunging us into a nightmare world of eternal darkness and terror, Shakespeare’s great tragedy remains the definitive study of the descent into evil.
Content Advisory Images of darkness and blood abound in the dialogue. The play also contains several episodes of violent action, including the killing of a mother and her son, and a scene involving the ghostly apparition of a murdered man. Though the staging of these scenes is not unduly graphic, some very young children might be disturbed by them. The production uses haze, fog, strobe lights, loud gunshots and pyrotechnic effects. A herbal cigarette is smoked on stage.
Our recommendation: Suitable for most ages but may not be of interest to younger children.
