About the Play

Phèdre, Queen of Athens, is consumed by a dark secret: an overwhelming passion for her stepson. When word comes that King Theseus is dead, she decides to make her feelings known – thereby setting in motion an unstoppable series of tragic events.

This exquisite new adaptation of Racine’s masterpiece sheds new light on his fearless examination of a soul denied the balm of heavenly grace.
Content Advisory The tragic plot is driven by Phèdre’s incestuous desire for her stepson; however, her expression of her passion is purely verbal, with no physical depiction of sexuality. Likewise, violent deaths are reported but not depicted on stage.

Our recommendation: Suitable for ages 13 and up
