About the Play
Confined to her home in India, 16-year-old Tina, a paraplegic, draws patterns on the ground with rice flour as she awaits an arranged marriage to a man she has never met. But when her cousin Tommy arrives on a visit from Canada, the two form a bond and open each other’s eyes to a wider world – with life-changing consequences.
Penetrating to the heart of the immigrant experience, this award-winning drama explores universal themes of love, loss and the nature of identity.
Content Advisory This examination of love and loss within an extended family may be of more interest to more mature teenagers. Overall, the play’s tone is charming and sweet, but there are some elements of sexuality, including a brief depiction of masturbation and a scene in which a man makes a sexual advance toward the young protagonist. There are one or two instances of strong language.
Our recommendation: Suitable for most people aged 13 and up.
