Miles Potter

12th season: Director of The Three Musketeers. Stratford: Miles Potter has directed eight productions for the Stratford Festival, including Medea, Orpheus Descending (both of which were later presented by Mirvish Productions in Toronto) and the 2011 season’s Richard III featuring Seana McKenna as the king. Elsewhere: He has worked at virtually every major venue in the country over the past 30 years. He has worked on many new scripts, including the première production and national tour of Michael Healy’s The Drawer Boy (Dora Award) as well as the recent Innocence Lost (première and revival) by Beverly Cooper (Blyth Festival). He has directed six Shakespeares for Vancouver’s Bard on the Beach, including his extremely popular Spaghetti Western version of The Taming of the Shrew in 2007 (Jessie Award) and last summer’s Macbeth. Over the years, Miles has had a long relationship with the Manitoba Theatre Centre, where he has directed 17 productions including last season’s God of Carnage. His production of Picasso at the Lapin Agile at the Centaur Theatre was given the Masque Award for best English-language production. Other favourite productions include One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest for Theatre Calgary, A Streetcar Named Desire for the Citadel Theatre and Awake and Sing! for Soulpepper. Teaching: Miles has been a guest director and teacher at the National Theatre School, George Brown College, the Globe’s conservatory and the University of Missouri at Kansas City. Et cetera: When not working, Miles lives in the Ontario village of Harrington with Seana and son Cal.
