36th season: Composer for The Importance of Being Earnest. During his 34-year tenure as director of music (1975-2007) Mr. Carrière composed and arranged music for over 80 Stratford productions. He was musical director and conductor for The Mikado (U.S., Broadway and London’s Old Vic), HMS Pinafore (U.S. tour) and was musical director, arranger and conductor for major Canadian theatres and for King Lear (N.Y.C. Lincoln Center). He received Dora Awards for musical direction (The Mikado, 1987, and The Boy Friend, 1981) and a special Guthrie Award tribute for his “contribution to Canadian theatre at large” (1973). He composed music for The Tempest and Twelfth Night (CBC Radio, 1999). Mr. Carrière holds an MMus in composition from the University of Western Ontario and received UWO’s Alumni Professional Achievement Award (2000). He was appointed a member of the Order of Canada (2001) and received the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal (2003). In 2008 he was inducted into the University of Western Ontario Music Faculty Hall of Fame.
