Elsewhere: Founding Artistic Director, Theatre Calgary (1968-1971); Artistic Director, Vancouver Playhouse (1973-1979), founder of the Playhouse Acting School; Artistic Director of the Shaw Festival (1980-2002) and now Artistic Director Emeritus. Actor at The Shaw, MTC, Vancouver Playhouse, NAC, in New York and elsewhere. Director at The Shaw, Vancouver Playhouse, Theatre Calgary, Neptune, Aquarius, Belfry, Arts Club, Melbourne Theatre Company, Vancouver Opera, Canadian Opera Company, Pacific Opera Victoria and others. Awards: Order of Canada, Molson Prize, Governor General's Award, Chalmers Award, City of Toronto Award, Dora Award and seven honorary degrees including Toronto, New York and the Royal Conservatory.
