Sixth season: Dramaturge of Othello. Stratford: Eight productions of Shakespeare, Caesar and Cleopatra, Rice Boy; Chris Abraham’s productions of The Matchmaker and The Little Years. Elsewhere: Just opened Daniel Sullivan’s production of The Comedy of Errors in New York. Over 50 projects from his eight years as artistic director of Sundance Theatre Labs went on to production, including I Am My Own Wife (Tony, Pulitzer), The Laramie Project, The Light in the Piazza and Spring Awakening (Tonys for latter two). Robert taught playwriting and Shakespeare studies in graduate programs at Columbia, Iowa, UCSD and Yale, where he was interim chair of playwriting. He was Des McAnuff’s associate artistic director at La Jolla Playhouse, where he worked on The Who’s Tommy and Steppenwolf’s The Grapes of Wrath (Tonys for both), and was the first dramaturge at Joseph Papp’s Public Theater. Training: Cornell.
