Ian Harper

35th season: Wooden flute (onstage) in Romeo and Juliet and Festival Theatre fanfares. Stratford: Since Candide in 1978, Ian has played woodwinds in more than 45 productions and recorded the music for dozens more. He was an onstage musician in Wild Oats (1980) and As You Like It (2010). Elsewhere: Active in the Toronto theatre scene since 1976, Ian played in the original Toronto productions of Cats, Les Misérables, Crazy for You, Chicago and most other Mirvish musicals, including The Lion King and The Lord of the Rings. Ian plays woodwinds and Uilleann pipes with Loreena McKennitt, including on her latest album, The Wind That Shakes the Barley. Training: Ian studied arranging and composition at Humber College in the late ’70s. Et cetera: Ian lives on a farm north of Owen Sound with his lovely wife, Donna-Claire, and a menagerie of animals.
