Using Stratford Shakespeare Festival Archival Photographs: Policies and Procedures
To use photographs from the Stratford Shakespeare Festival Archives, the following steps must be followed:
1. Submit your request in detail in writing to:
Stratford Shakespeare Festival Archives
P.O. Box 520
Stratford, ON, Canada N5A 6V2
Fax: 519-271-1040
E-mail: echarendoff@stratfordshakespearefestival.com
2. Sign and return the photo release that we will send to you.
3.
We will forward your request to Equity and ask for permission to
release images to you. If your request is to publish images in an
academic book, a play, a biographical book about an artist, a theatre or
theatre in general, or a web site, we will also ask Equity whether you
must pay a fee to the actors. If your request is for academic use as
determined by Equity, you will not have to pay the actors for use of the
image. Any other use (e.g. advertising, television) is considered
commercial and fees must be paid to actors – currently a minimum of
$118.50 per actor per image for a period of not more than 104 weeks.
Note that reprints of books will require second permission(s) at the
time of reprint.
4. Once Equity responds, we will ask you to
contact actors for their permission. If we have actor’s agent contact
information we will give it to you. Actor contact information is also
available from:
Canadian Actors Equity: 416-867-9165, or 1-800-387-1856; FAX: 416-867-9246
American Actors Equity: 212-869-8530
British Actors Equity: 011-44-207-379-6000
ACTRA: 416-489-1311
Screen Actors Guild (USA): 212-944-6243
5.
Once you have forwarded a copy of the actors' permissions to the
archives, we will send you the images and credit captions. We generally
provide scanned photos on C.D., on your FTP site or via email. Photos
may not be archived or re-used for other projects.
Note that our
photo fee is $20 per image. If research must be conducted on your
behalf, we will add $25 per hour. GST will be added. Cheques should be
made payable to the Stratford Shakespeare Festival Archives. Payment is
due upon receipt of invoice. Note that as part of our standard photo
release procedure, we require that you forward us a copy of any item in
which the photograph appears.
If you have any questions, please phone: 519-271-0055, extension 4310 for Archives Coordinator Ellen Charendoff.
