Overseen by Antoni Cimolino, Artistic Director and David Latham, Theatre Training Consultant, the Michael Langham Workshop for Classical Direction is intended for directors in the early and middle stages of their careers who have had some experience working with the classics, but not at a theatre of the complexity and scope of the Festival. Those accepted into the program participate in a Festival season as assistant directors. Assistant directors are required for 8 to 17 weeks from when rehearsals begin to the opening of their show. Participants showcase their work in the Directors' Workshop Presentation - a private event held at the Studio Theatre in the fall. Resources provided include actors, stage management, rehearsal space, performance venue, design coordinator, costumes and props from stock and production support. Trainees also participate in existing classes in text, voice, movement and other disciplines held by the Festival’s Coaching Department, and in specialized classes taught by the Theatre Training Consultant, Festival coaches and invited instructors that explore specific textual, vocal and physical skills used in rehearsing a classical play. The program’s networking component includes tours, comp tickets, invitations to special events, access to the Festival’s Archives and libraries, Q&As, chats (both formal and informal) with senior staff, Board members and visiting artists. Participants are paid a fee plus a travel and accommodation subsidy. Final matching of assistant directors to productions is entirely at the discretion of the Festival creative team. To be considered for 2014 please submit your résumé, along with a letter of recommendation and a letter of your own outlining why you wish to participate, to: Bonnie Green Associate Producer Stratford Festival Box 520, 55 Queen Street Stratford, ON N5A 6V2 519.271.0055, ext. 2290 bgreen@stratfordfestival.ca Applications may be sent by mail or email postmarked no later than August 15, 2013.
