The Tanya Stage | Stratford Festival
Artistic Director Antoni Cimolino celebrates the Festival Theatre's thrust stage, designed by Tanya Moiseiwitsch for Stratford's first season in 1953, and restored to its original configuration for 2013.

The heart of any theatre is its stage, and nowhere is this truer than here in Stratford.

For our 2013 season, we are restoring the Festival stage to reflect Tanya Moiseiwitsch's original design. For the first time since the mid-1970s, three productions at the Festival Theatre -- Romeo and Juliet, The Three Musketeers and The Merchant of Venice -- will share the same stage configuration.

Ghost Light by George Meanwell | Stratford Festival
George Meanwell and Eric St-Laurent perform "Ghost Light" from George's just released CD/DVD "The Easy Straight". A ghost light is the incandescent light left illuminated on stage when a theatre is unoccupied and would otherwise be completely dark.

George Meanwell, Anna Atkinson, and Michael McClennan perform "Changeover" from George's just released CD/DVD "The Easy Straight". A song about the uncertainty of the season's end in Stratford. A changeover is the activity between performances in repertory theatre companies.

The Easy Straight by George Meanwell | Stratford Festival
George Meanwell and Anna Atkinson perform "The Easy Straight", the title track from George's just released CD/DVD. This instrumental was composed in the spring of 2011 in memory of Wayne Robson, the actor who was to play "Grampa" in the Festival production of "The Grapes Of Wrath", but who passed away early in the rehearsal period. This music was used for the bows throughout the production. The title comes from the eulogy which Jim Casey gives in the play at Grampa's burial:

"An' I wouldn't pray for a ol' fella that's dead. He's alright. He got a job to do, but it's all laid out for him an' there's on'y one way to do it. But us, we got a job to do, an' they's a thousand ways, an' we don' know which one to take. An' if I was to pray, it'd be for the folks that don' know which way to turn. Grampa here, he's got the easy straight. An' now cover 'im up and let 'im get to his work."
