As many as 75,000 students attend the Stratford Festival each year. Their teachers play a crucial role in preparing them for those visits, introducing them to Shakespeare and developing their understanding and appreciation of his work, his life and his world.

In recognition of the vitally important work done by educators, we have created an award to honour those who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in teaching Shakespeare – teachers who are brilliant, creative and inspiring.

If you know a teacher who fits this description, we invite you to nominate them for the Stratford Festival Teacher Award for Excellence in Shakespeare Teaching and Learning.

To be eligible for this award, a teacher must:

  • Be registered in the Ontario public or Catholic school system
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • Be certified with the Ontario College of Teachers
  • Have been teaching (continuously or cumulatively) for three years

Nominations will be judged against the following criteria:

  1. Teaching and Learning
  2. Student Achievement, Assessment and Engagement
  3. Commitment and Leadership

The recipient will be selected by a panel drawn from across the Stratford Festival, including company members, teaching artists, education staff, the Student Advisory Committee and the Teachers-Festival Liaison Council.
