In both Billy Elliot the Musical and The Neverending Story, creativity helps children assert themselves against bullies and negative societal attitudes. What does bullying look like in today’s social media-dominated world, and how are young people coping with these contemporary demons? Dr. Kwame McKenzie, Co-Director of the Division of Equity Gender and Population in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, Dr. Debra J. Pepler, Distinguished Research Professor in the York University Department of Psychology, and actor Qasim Khan (Atreyu in The Neverending Story) discuss the boundaries of bullying, with moderator Stephanie Johns of the Festival's Education Department.
