Online - Zoom
April 10, 2024 – April 24, 2024
11:00 a.m. to noon
Digital Forum Academy: Shakespeare Deep Dive

Study up on each of the Shakespeare plays coming to the stage in Stratford's 2024 season. Pull your tights up and leap with merriment into the text to explore genre, Shakespeare’s sources, his dramatic structure, and explore central images and motifs. Over this three-week online series, you'll read the full text of the play, contextualizing it within Shakespeare’s life and times through guided instruction and class discussion with Professor Jonathan Ullyot.

No experience is required, except an interest (and maybe love) of Shakespeare. Each series is a maximum of 15 students and will offer the same content.

Jonathan Ullyot is a graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada, earned a PhD in Comparative Literature at the University of Chicago and teaches literature at the Universities of Toronto and Chicago and Seneca College.

The World Upside Down: Shakespeare's Twelfth Night

The 2024 season will mark the thirteenth time the Stratford Festival has produced Twelfth Night. In this sublime play, Shakespeare revolutionizes the genre of comedy, adding layers of complexity which would have baffled his contemporaries. We will explore (among so many other things) how Twelfth Night is a play written for and about the Feast of Epiphany; discuss the pagan roots of this mummer's play; and delve into some of the most hilarious scenes and characters in Western literature.

This Digital Forum Academy series is being presented three times and includes three online seminars that take place weekly and three pre-recorded lectures. Seminar dates are non-interchangeable across the series. Please choose from:

Twelfth Night: Series C, Beginning April 10
